In the midst of the very vibrant and contemporary city of
Nashville, many historic structures and classic southern buildings
provide authentic glimpses into the days when the city was on
America’s frontier, as well as during the Gilded Age of the city
during the early 1800s. True to its name the the “Athens of the
South” Tennesseans incorporated the Greek Revival style of
architecture into its state capitol, hotels, churches, plantations
and mansions.
We’ve designed this Break Away to introduce you to old
Nashville, its traditions and classic structures, as well as take
you on the Tennessee Antebellum Trail, a series of mansions dating
from 1799 to the mid 1800s, that have been restored to their
original grandeur. From the Parthenon, The Hermitage, home of
President Andrew Jackson, to Belle Meade Mansion and Belmont, close
in the city itself, the trip can be extended to the home of
President James K. Polk, Travelers Rest and Rattle and Snap,
considered one of the finest examples of classic Southern Greek
Revival architecture in America, and others further into Middle
Tennessee.
Accommodations at The Hermitage Hotel enhance and blend right
into this trip, an opportunity to glimpse a time gone by.
